The COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world caused large-scale institutional and behavioural ‘shock effects’ in various areas of human activity, education inclusive. The impact on teaching and learning is unprecedented. This is due to massive and unexpected closures of schools. Affected countries, including Nigeria, have been forced to seek quick fixes in different digital learning platforms. These rapid moves from classroom to online teaching have, to some extent, set aside the more profound questions related to national educational policies. This paper therefore employs a critical lens to reflect on the concept of collaborative teaching and learning using Industry 5.0, procedures for using collaborative teaching methods with Industry 5.0 tools, challenges and strategies for improving the use of collaborative teaching and learning as an approach towards enhancing educational achievement in post COVID-19 era. The paper recommends among others that School managers and administrators need to develop and offer professional development opportunities in the area of Industry 5.0 technology on a regular basis centered on the implementation of collaborative teaching towards enhancing teachers’ performance to meet future needs.
Hammed SALAMI Abu MOHAMMED Copyright (c) 2023-06-10 2023-06-10 17 1 84 92 ASSESSMENT OF POST HARVEST LOSSES OF LEAFY VEGETABLES AMONG RURAL FARMERS IN KANO AND JIGAWA STATE, NIGERIA https://bijejournal.com/BIJE/article/view/995
This study focused on the assessment of post-harvest losses of leafy vegetables among rural farmers in Kano
and Jigawa State, Nigeria. Three (3) research questions and one (1) hypothesis guided the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprises of Leafy vegetable farmers, marketers and extension agents in Kano and Jigawa States. Purposive sampling method was used in selecting 120 respondents for the study. Three sets of questionnaires were developed from the reviewed literature and were used for data collection from the respondents. The questionnaires were face-validated by three experts. Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instruments and a reliability coefficient of 0.71, 0.73, and 0.89 were obtained for the three sets of questionnaire respectively. 120 copies of the questionnaires were administered to the respondents by the researcher with the help of five research assistants and all the copies were retrieved. The data collected were analyzed using frequency distribution table and simple percentage to answer the research questions while t-test statistics was used to test the hypotheses of no Significance difference at the probability of 0.05 at relevant degree of freedom. It was found out that inadequate pre-harvest production practices, poor planning of harvesting time, inadequate storage and processing facilities causes post-harvest loss of leafy vegetables, On the use of technology, majority of the farmers and marketers lack skills for effective re-use of the vegetables for other purposes and it has affected socio-economic status of the rural farmers in the area of income generation, high cost of food items and farm input leading to diversification in production activities. The study recommended improvement in the periodic training of farmers, and extension agents, subsidizing farm inputs and storage and processing facilities towards minimizing post-harvest losses and wastages of leafy vegetables in the study area.
Abu MOHAMMED Hussaini USMAN Copyright (c) 2023-06-10 2023-06-10 17 1 93 107 INSTRUMENT FOR STUDENTS EVALUATION OF LECTURERS IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: A SUDY OF ITS APPLICABILITY https://bijejournal.com/BIJE/article/view/997
Evaluation is a very important aspect of lecturing and had been done more by the lecturers with little or no input from the students. The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) which is the supervisory agency for Colleges of Education in Nigeria in its 2020 edition of the Minimum Standards provided an instrument for the evaluation of lecturers by students. Using a mixed method approach, the study raised four research questions and hypotheses to address some aspects of the applicability of the NCCE Instrument for Students Evaluation of Lecturers (ISEL). The population comprised of lecturers and students of colleges of education in Nigeria and a sample or 260 students and 48 lecturers were randomly sampled for survey design and 30 of the students were randomly selected into control and experimental groups. Three instruments used were ISEL, Students Evaluation of Lecturers in Colleges of Education Questionnaire (SELCEQ) and pre evaluation briefing on ISEL (PREBISEL). Descriptive statistics, T test, χ2 and one way ANCOVA were used to answer research questions and test hypotheses. Findings revealed that lecturers whose students score higher marks in their courses receive higher students’ evaluation rating than lecturers whose students score lower marks and Pre evaluation briefing had no significant effect on students’ evaluation of their lecturers. |It is recommended that the NCCE should monitor its implementation and emphasize it in accreditation processes. The process of administration and reporting of ISEL should be developed and standardized with consideration for a mixed method approach.
OKEGBILE AKANMU SUNDAY Copyright (c) 2023-06-10 2023-06-10 17 1 108 116
